GAC: Credit union impact by the numbers

Nearly 140 staffers, leaders and volunteers from Kansas and Missouri credit unions spoke up for their members and communities this week at CUNA GAC in Washington, D.C. Our Heartland crew joined 5,500 credit union leaders from across the country at the GAC. In a non-scientific survey, our attendees averaged 14,000 steps each day, met with 16 members of Congress and their staff, and touched on four key areas of concern – data security, the credit union difference, needed common sense regulatory and legislative changes, and cannabis banking.

“Our greatest strength is our impact on real people back home in the district. When we are able to share those stories with members of Congress it makes a real impact,” says Amy McLard, executive director of advocacy.  “Our sincere thanks to everyone who made the trip to GAC and came to Capitol Hill to share their impact.”

Attendees were encouraged to continue to open consumers’ eyes to credit unions because what’s possible will depend on what the industry can do together. The campaign is now live in 21 states and reports show we've seen progress in just one year.
