    SAFE Banking Act passes U.S. House of Representatives

    Members of the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act (H.R. 1595) by a vote of 321-103 on September 25. Seven of our House members voted in support. We, along with member credit unions, have urged members of Congress from Kansas and Missouri to support this legislation since its introduction in March.

    Thanks a million Millennium!

    For the third year in a row, the great team at Millennium Corporate Credit Union sponsored the Foundation Bash, bringing a crowd of retired leaders to celebrate philanthropy with 350 credit union enthusiasts.  Guests enjoyed a limited-edition Millennium Mule while dancing the night away with our dueling DJs at the chic Abbott Event space.

    Arsenal Credit Union feeds the hungry

    The team at Arsenal Credit Union has been feeding the hungry in St. Louis since 2012.  In partnership with the St. Patrick’s Center, Arsenal employees have already created 2,015 “Blessing Bags” which include a sack lunch and personal hygiene items to distribute throughout the community. Their goal is to prepare and distribute more than 1,700 Blessing Bags in 2019 alone.  In addition to feeding the hungry, Arsenal employees have volunteered over 950 hours this year, sharing their passion for people helping people.

    CSD brings financial education to KCMO schools

    During the 2018-2019 school year, CSD Credit Union (Kansas City, MO) brought the Banzai Financial Literacy program to 25 middle and high school teachers in the Kansas City area.  A total of 1420 students received a proven online curriculum presented by their teachers, and offered free of cost thanks to CSD Credit Union and a community development grant from HCUCF.

    As of mid-September, the Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union initiative is live in 13 states. The campaign, designed to drive consumer consideration of credit unions and dispel myths about credit unions, launched in Kansas and Missouri on July 22.

    Credit unions recognized in inaugural “Take a STAND” awards

    Eighteen Kansas and Missouri credit unions received the first-ever “Take a STAND” award at HCUA’s Convention & Annual Meeting on September 13. The “Take a STAND” award recognizes credit unions that participate in the STAND program, and complete nine key advocacy steps. The STAND program is a grassroots activation program that gives our credit unions the tools to better navigate political action and stand for credit union issues.

    Missouri PACE issue heats up in Springfield

    Springfield area credit unions made their voices heard this past week by sending letters to the Springfield City Council urging the city to stop offering its Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. The Springfield City Council will vote whether or not to rescind the program on Monday, September 23.

    As Missouri lawmakers headed to Jefferson City for the annual veto session, Missouri Credit Union House was front and center with three lawmaker events in less than 24 hours. Credit union advocates joined in by attending multiple lawmaker events on September 10-11.
