    The Missouri House Financial Institutions Committee hears bills that most often affect credit unions and determines which bills will go on for floor debate.  This session, the committee has seven new state representatives with the responsibility of not only learning the issues but then determining how they will vote. This includes two new state representatives with experience in the financial industry.

    The Missouri Senate Insurance and Banking and House Financial Institutions Committees met for the first time last week. These committees focus on issues of importance for credit unions. 

    While the Senate focused on insurance bills, the House Financial Institutions Committee heard two bills with potential impact to credit unions.

    HCUA Introduces Credit Union Modernization Bill

    A credit union-focused bill is now making its way through the Kansas House, just in time for credit union leaders to encourage lawmaker support during Kansas Day at the Capitol. We introduced House Bill 2101 on January 28, which was built by an HCUA task force of credit union CEOs, attorneys and compliance specialists. House Bill 2101 will make broad changes to the Kansas Credit Union Act, which governs state-chartered credit unions.

    Legislative Construction in Process in Jefferson City!

    Along with the construction outside the Capitol building, the Missouri legislative session is in full swing and lawmakers are constructing bills. Key committees impacting credit unions are receiving assigned bills for review as they are introduced. There are already 984 bills in the House and Senate, with more being filed every day.

    Kansas credit unions helped usher in a new Governor on January 14. Representatives of Azura Credit Union attended the Governor’s swearing in ceremony outside the Capitol that morning, and HCUA hosted a table that evening at the Kelly-Rogers Inaugural Ball.
