Springfield Meeting with U.S. Rep. Billy Long

Springfield Meeting with U.S. Rep. Billy Long

As part of the statewide effort to meet with federal lawmakers at home during the Congressional recess period, Springfield credit union leaders met with U.S. Rep. Billy Long (R-District 7) in his Springfield office on September 5.

Participants included Carolina Decker and Judy Hadsall from CU Community Credit Union, Steve Pierson from BluCurrent Credit Union, Cathy Stroud from Community Financial Credit Union, and Amy McLard with the Missouri Credit Union Association.

Congressman Long and attendees discussed credit union member business lending (MBL), ATM disclosure and privacy notice legislation.  Long is a cosponsor of H.R. 4367, the ATM disclosure bill, as well as H.R. 5817, the Eliminate Privacy Notice Confusion Act.  Both bills would benefit credit unions.

Lawmakers return to Washington, D.C. on September 10, but Congressman Long expressed concern that many bills and issues will not get addressed as the House and Senate will be in session for a very limited time in September and October.  He urged continued contact with his office to keep him appraised of any developments with bills of concern.

“Although it appears that nothing will be accomplished in the House and Senate for the rest of the year, it is critical that credit unions remain vigilant with addressing the important issues such as MBL with our legislators,” said CU Community President/CEO Judy Hadsall.  “Congressman Long was receptive to our issues and bills.”
