United Consumers Names Four Scholarship Winners
Local students Philip Hammons, Hannah Seidel, Kelsey Cole and Tyler Solomon are the 2012 recipients of four scholarships offered by United Consumers Credit Union (Independence). Hammons and Seidel were recognized with $1,000 awards, and Cole and Solomon received $500 each. All four winners demonstrated exemplary scholastic achievements, as well as civic involvement and strong character.
Hammons is a Van Horn High School alumnus who actively participated in football, baseball, basketball, service organizations and National Honor Society. He plans to attend Kaskaskia College in the fall, where he will continue to play baseball.
Seidel, a graduate of Blue Springs High School, will soon head to Kirksville to attend Truman State University. Her 4.327 high school GPA and extensive community involvement bode well for Seidel’s success as a Bulldog.
Cole was a member of National Honor Society, as well as Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and the softball, basketball and track teams at Maysville High School. She will pursue her degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Van Horn High School graduate Solomon lettered in football, basketball and baseball while representing his classmates as student council vice president and treasurer. He will attend Simpson College in the fall.
