Business Lending Spotlight: United Consumers Credit Union

Business Lending Spotlight:  United Consumers Credit Union

This is a series of stories highlighting credit unions making small business loans in Missouri and the need for S. 2231, the Credit Union Small Business Jobs Act.

United Consumers Credit Union

United Consumers Credit Union was formed in 1941 to serve area steelworkers, and has seen many changes since that time. It has grown from a small credit union with only two services and modest assets to a credit union of $115 million in assets with a complete range of financial products. Through the years, the credit union has consistently offered a sound alternative to increasingly expensive banking services.

Now a full-service financial institution, United Consumers Credit Union has partnered with more than 100 area businesses and serves more than 15,000 members in the Kansas City metro area and beyond.  People living or working in Jackson County, Buchanan County or the city of Cameron is eligible to join. Those who live, work or worship in Johnson County, Kansas, are also welcome.

The following area businesses benefit from the flexible credit options, low loan rates and strong returns United Consumers Credit Union provides to its members:

A Strong Business Partner
Tom Waters, Owner, Corporate Copy Print, Inc.

The Corporate Copy Print team understands the importance of a strong business partner. As a resource for design and printing services to the Kansas City area, Corporate Copy Print provides the tools clients need to communicate with the public, employees, stockholders and vendors.  Just as other companies rely on Corporate Copy Print, owner and manager Tom Waters relies on United Consumers Credit Union.

“Knowing that I have financial backup helps me make decisions that keep my business strong,” Waters says. “I don’t just call the credit union; I call my advisors at United Consumers. I know they can guide me in financial concerns that are beyond my area of expertise.”

Waters didn’t go to local banks when he had a need for business services – he came straight to United Consumers Credit Union. “I chose to go to United Consumers Credit Union first because of the reputation it has for an outstanding staff, personal service and competitive rates. I recommend them all the time because I trust them,” he says.

Taking the Time and Effort to Help
Brigette Brungardt, Owner, Exclusive Lawns, Inc.

Exclusive Lawns provides professional lawn care and irrigation services to Kansas City area residents.  With nearly two decades of business experience, owner Brigette Brungardt didn’t anticipate a problem when she wanted to purchase property to help her business expand.  Brigette went to local banks for a loan, and didn’t receive the response she expected.

“The banks we contacted were not very responsive once they heard the type of business we owned,” reports Brigette. “They just flat returned our paperwork, stating that there wasn’t enough information in our packet to justify the property purchase. When we asked about the information they might have needed, we were given a shoulder shrug.”

That changed when Brigette contacted United Consumers Credit Union. “The staff at United Consumers Credit Union answered many of our questions without any callbacks. They took the time to hear what our current and future plans for the property involved.”

“UCCU has truly brightened our future!” says Brigette.   “We are proud that our small business has stayed strong for this long, and we believe that United Consumers Credit Union has given us a spark to keep going and succeed.”
