Electro Savings Teams with Fourth Grade Foresters

As part of its commitment to helping our local communities and reaching out to area youth during Credit Union Youth Month, Electro Savings Credit Union (St. Louis) has partnered with Fourth Grade Foresters USA to provide 820 evergreen tree seedlings to St. Louis County fourth-graders in honor of National Arbor Day on April 27.

Fourth Grade Foresters USA was created to provide a simple and inexpensive way for any individual, business or organization to send the 4th Grade students at local elementary schools home with a tree of their own to plant and care for. Each fourth grader receives an individually packaged 12”-18” evergreen tree seedling packaged by workers with disabilities.

April is also National Credit Union Youth Month, when credit unions across the U.S. bring attention to the critical need to educate our youth on the importance of saving and spending wisely. “Electro Savings Credit Union has been part of the Greater St. Louis community for over 70 years, and we are strongly committed to helping our local communities grow,” says Laura Mugge, community development specialist with the credit union. “We were excited to learn about the Fourth Grade Foresters program, which combines a passion for the environment with our enthusiasm for educating youth.” In addition to providing tree seedlings to eight area schools, the credit union will also hand out seedlings to its youth account credit union members the week of April 23 – 28 at its four St. Louis area offices located in Maryland Heights, Manchester, Wildwood and South St. Louis County.

Fourth-graders at the following schools will benefit from Electro Savings Credit Union’s sponsorship of the Fourth Grade Foresters program:

  • Henry Elementary, Manchester, MO 63011
  • Pierremont Elementary, Manchester, MO 63011
  • Craig Elementary, Creve Coeur, MO 63146
  • Mckelvey Elementary, Maryland Heights, MO 63043
  • Kennerly Elementary, St. Louis, MO 63128
  • Fairway Elementary, Wildwood, MO 63040
  • Green Pines Elementary, Wildwood, MO 63011
  • Pond Elementary, Wildwood, MO 63040

"This project is made possible because community businesses like Electro Savings Credit Union cover the cost of each of the individually packaged evergreen trees, so that there is no cost to the students, the teachers, the school, or the taxpayer," says Debra Ersch, cofounder of the Fourth Grade Foresters Project.
