Two Kansas Senate Replacements Named, One To Go

Rep. Vic Miller    Mary Ware

We’ll see three new faces in the Kansas Senate come January when Sen. Laura Kelly, Sen. Lynn Rogers and Sen. Vicki Schmidt are sworn into statewide offices. Kelly, who was elected Governor, has resigned the 17th District Senate seat, which encompasses parts of Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties. The district’s Democratic precinct committee members have named Rep. Vic Miller (D-Topeka) to fulfill the remainder of her term. Rogers, who will be sworn in as Lt. Governor, has resigned the 25th District Senate seat in Wichita. The Democratic precinct committee selected Mary Ware, a Wichita CBD store operator, to serve out the remainder of Rogers’ term.

Republican precinct committee members will meet Dec. 14 in Topeka to select the replacement for Schmidt, who was elected Insurance Commissioner. Eric Rucker, Assistant Secretary of State under Kris Kobach, and Joe Patton, former state representative, are in the running for that seat.
