It’s That Time of Year: Missouri Lawmakers Pre-Filing Bills

The Missouri State Capitol is bustling with activity - and not just from construction around the building. Lawmakers began pre-filing legislation for the 2019 legislative session on December 1. These pre-filed bills give us a taste of what will likely be hot topics in the next legislative session.

We are already seeing some of the same big issues as previous sessions, including right-to-work, proposals to decrease taxes, and modifications to Missouri gun laws. Our HCUA advocacy team is reviewing each pre-filed bill for potential impact to Missouri credit unions and how to address it. Watch for more-in-depth analysis when bill details are released. Lawmakers can sponsor as many pieces of legislation as they choose, and with 197 members in the Missouri General Assembly that means typically several thousand bills filed. Click on House and Senate to see a current listing of pre-filed bills. Lawmakers can pre-file bills until January 8, 2019. Session begins on January 9.
