CU News: 1st Financial Federal & Infuze Credit Unions Give Back

We've heard great news from two credit unions this week. Congrats to 1st Financial Federal Credit Union (Wentzville, MO) and Infuze Credit Union (Fort Leonard Wood, MO) for supporting their local communities.

1st Financial Federal Credit Union Wins Community Credit Union of the Year 

1st Financial Federal Credit Union (Wentzville, MO) was awarded the 2016 Community Credit Union of the Year Award of Community Development Credit Unions by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in Dallas, Texas.

“They, along with all of our 2016 entrants, show how credit unions that are fully devoted to the principle of People Helping People can make a difference in the financial lives of, not only, individuals, but also their communities as a whole,” said Todd Spiczenski, CUNA Chief Products and Services Officer.

While it is improving, St. Louis is known as one of the most unbanked cities in the nation. 1st Financial Federal Credit Union works to give members of the community access to financial products and services, while establishing strong partnerships for a more strategic and sustainable outcome. Examples of include:

  • Working with St. Louis City Treasurer, Tishaura Jones, to implement work on the job training and education. 1st Financial has opened more than 2,800 college savings accounts for kindergartners in St. Louis City public and charter schools.
  • Providing financial education and checking acounts for more than 1,400 young adults through the STL Youth Jobs program.
  • Helping local nonprofits focused on sustainable housing, job training and education with the Helping People 1st monthly grant.

You have also invested into the future success and continued change in the communities you love.”

Since 2014, 1st Financial has given over $30,000 or 1.9 percent of net income, in grant money to local nonprofit organizations, such as Gateway 180, Urban League, Beyond Housing, KidSmart- Tools for Learning, Mission St. Louis, Junior Achievement, and Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, employees of 1st Financial have volunteered more than 1,100 hours.

Infuze Donates to Local Charities

Throughout 2016, Infuze Credit Union (Fort Leonard Wood, MO) employees raised $5,720 for local community causes. 

More than 50 employees paid $10 monthly for the privilege of wearing blue jeans each Friday. Beneficiaries of the proceeds included Genesis Domestic Violence Shelter, Gingerbread House Residential Learning Center for the Mentally and Developmentally Challenged, Claws & Paws Animal Adoption Center, Hope House Thrift Store & Food Pantry, Infuze CU’s Military Appreciation Day, Tonya’s Hope, Mercy Hospital Back to School Fair, Lime Tree Addiction Recovery, Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, Kids Harbor Child Advocacy, Laclede Literacy Council, and Pulaski County Humane Society.
