Hutchinson Government Employees Credit Union Picks Up Coffee Tab on International Credit Union Day

Hutchinson Government Employees (HGE) Credit Union made people's day a bit brighter on October 20, 2016. Partnering with a local coffee shop, the credit union picked up the tab for all of its customers between 7:30-11 a.m.

The coffee shop, Scuttlebutts has two locations, and two HGE Credit Union employees were at each location. They were on hand to share the credit union difference with those interested about credit unions. People were very grateful and open to hearing about the credit union movement.

"We were able to get in front of a lot of new faces and had the chance to talk to them all for a while and educate them on the benefits of choosing a credit union," said Oscar Garcia, HGE Credit Union staffer. "We actually had other businesses contact us to see how it went and how much we spent because they heard so much about it!"

To get the word out, HGE Credit Union promoted it via Facebook. In addition, one of the Scuttlebutts' locations is located in Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, and the hospital invited employees to the event. Credit union staffers also asked people they talked to at the coffee house to use the hashtag #HGECU - for mention the credit union made a donation to the Food Bank (they donated $669).

The event earned so much attention that HGE Credit Union noticed a sizeable uptick in page visits, shares and chatter on social media with #HGECU. The credit union's board encouraged the staff to make this an annual event.

Credit union employees also gave away tons of cups, pens, koozies and stress balls. The stress balls were a big hit... especially at the hospital!

Electro Savings Credit Union Honors Military with Donation to Local USO

Electro Savings proudly donated $1,025 to the USO of Missouri, located on the lower level of Terminal 1 at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. In honor of Veterans Day, the credit union pledged $5 to the USO for each new account opened at the credit union during November. In its five years of pledging this donation, the credit union has donated $5,840 to the USO.

“Electro Savings is very proud to support our military with this donation," said Stan Moeckli, president of Electro Savings Credit Union. "Our active duty, veterans, and their families sacrifice so much for us through their service. Supporting the USO is one way that we can give back and express our gratitude."

Moeckli, a U.S. Air Force veteran himself, awarded a check to the USO of Missouri’s director of Volunteer Services Jennifer Warner.

The USO at Lambert Airport provides a full spectrum of services to all military personnel and their dependents. All services offered are free. On a typical day in the airport facility, you might find a young Marine recruit in route to boot camp in California; military families relaxing while waiting on a delayed flight or perhaps a Mother saying ‘goodbye’ to her daughter who is headed off to points unknown. The USO of Missouri’s Lambert facility is also a meeting point for up to 1,000 new recruits each week on their way to Ft. Leonard Wood for basic training. Many brave young men and women travel through the facility on their way overseas to protect our freedom. More than

700 dedicated volunteers work to keep the doors of the USO open. The USO of Missouri is a non-profit 501(c)(3), receiving no government, military, or United Way funding and are not part of the Department of Defense. All funding comes from individual and corporate donors.
