Last Chance: CUlead Application Deadline Nov. 15

Who are the future leaders in your organization? Is it you? Someone you supervise? Credit union leaders agree: retaining and training your best staff is vital to your credit union’s success.

CUlead provides leadership training, with the benefit of a small group atmosphere. CUlead helps build and enhance credit union management staffs' leadership abilities to further the credit union and cooperative movements.

The deadline to apply for the 2017 CUlead class is fast approaching. Applications and a letter of recommendation are due November 15. Visit the CUlead page for complete information and to apply.

CUlead graduates have built upon their leadership abilities and made life-long networking connections. These abilities and connections are important in the development of your organization’s talent.

Azura Credit Union (Topeka, KS) has sent several staff members through the program.

“Talent recruitment and retention is vital to the success of our credit union, due to planned future growth as well as the need to develop “bench strength” behind other employees that may be transitioning to new roles, or retiring,” said Azura president/CEO Greg Winkler.

While developing your staff is important, training the right staff should not be overlooked, says Chuck Bullock, president/CEO of TECU Credit Union (Wichita, KS). Bullock served on the CUlead program task force.

“We have to identify those that are interested in growing, and make a commitment to personally mentor and provide the right opportunities to further enhance their development, “ he said. TECU employs two CUlead graduates.

Crystal Miller, manager of Bell Credit Union (Hutchinson, KS), agrees.

“CUlead helps the right people learn the skills they need to help their credit union succeed,” said Miller.

Miller also said it helps staff grow because it covers all areas of management and leadership, not just what individuals personally experience. Bell Credit Union has two CUlead graduates on staff, including Miller.
