CU Roundup: ESCU Staff Learn to Save Lives, STL Credit Unions Named Best Places to Work

We are constantly amazed by the accomplishments of credit unions in Kansas and Missouri! They are continously supporting their communities, like fostering a positive work environment for staff.

Electro Savings Trains Staff to Save Lives

According to the American Heart Association’s website, effective bystander CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival. However, only 46% of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander; sadly, less than 8% of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive. That is why Electro Savings Credit Union (St. Louis, MO) is taking preemptive measures to save a life in case of an emergency at one of its locations. The credit union recently brought in a trainer from Mercy Hospital to teach “Safety Basics,” a course teaching effective CPR, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and how to assist in a choking emergency.

“Our goal is to be prepared before an emergency happens,” says Ashley Keegan, vice president of Human Resources. “We hope we never have to use this training, but in the event we have a member or employee in need, we will have staff at every office trained to provide effective bystander treatment until professional medical help arrives.”

St. Louis Credit Unions Best Places to Work Recognition

Credit unions are great places to work, just as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and St. Louis Business Journal published! The publications recently ran annual "best places to work" lists, and several area credit unions were included on these lists.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Top Workplaces are determined through nominations and employee surveys. Early in the year, the newspaper asked readers to nominate local employers. Then, Workplace Dynamics sent surveys to employees, gauging how they felt about their workplaces. This year, 164 companies, nonprofit groups and government agencies, employing more than 74,000 people in the St. Louis area, agreed to participate.

This year five credit unions were named to the Top Workplaces list:

  • 1st Financial Federal Credit Union
  • Anheuser-Busch Employees' Credit Union
  • First Community Credit Union
  • Scott Credit Union
  • Vantage Credit Union

In addition, First Community Credit Union was recognized on the St. Louis Business Journal's 2015 Best Places to Work list. Nearly 150 St. Louis companies participated in the survey, administered by Quantum Workplace. Quantum Workplace used its own algorithm to measure communication, management structure, benefits, teamwork and several other factors. Only 46 of the participating companies made the list.
