Getting “Social” for CUNA's GAC

There’s less than a week until the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) kicks off the Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC). There are a number of ways you can get involved, but the most important way is leveraging social media. This is true for both GAC attendees and those remaining home in Missouri and Kansas.*

Every member of the Congressional delegations from Kansas and Missouri has a Twitter account, which means is easier than ever to reach out to U.S. Senators and Representatives who represents your credit union members! If you are tweeting from home, share with them all the good things your credit union is doing, including member testimonials, examples of how your credit union gives back to its community, volunteer efforts and so on. If you are attending GAC, be sure to tag lawmakers in any pictures you take with them.*

Check out this guide for a list of all Kansas and Missouri lawmakers’ Twitter handles.

CUNA will be live tweeting during all general sessions, breakouts, exhibit halls, and more for continued coverage using 140 characters or less. Follow @CUNA and the hashtag #CUNAGAC for all these live tweets. In addition, you can follow @Advocate4CUs for photos and advocacy updates from Heartland Credit Union Association (HCUA). We will also retweet, favorite and tweet out photos of Kansas and Missouri credit union members during GAC 2016.

CUNA will also be broadcasting LIVE from backstage for a behind the scenes look at CUNA GAC. CUNA senior staff and keynote speakers will be featured. Download the Periscope app and follow @CUNA. Even if you can’t attend, you can submit questions via the app during the live broadcasts.

Both CUNA and HCUA will be posting on Facebook throughout the conference. Please make sure you like the Credit Union Advocates Facebook page. Following the event, we will post a full album of GAC pictures here.

Share the Credit Union Difference

Credit union advocates are encouraged to make a short, 15-second-or-less video telling what the credit union difference means to you. You can post it to Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram using the hashtag #CUdifference. Your video may be displayed during the CUNA GAC.

*Social Media Notes

Interact with lawmakers as you would with credit union members. Do not post anything on social media in anger or frustration. Also, only tag YOUR members of Congress or those that serve your credit union members.
