First Community Staffers Donate More Than $30,000 to Local Charities

In 2015 alone, First Community Credit Union's (Chesterfield) employees donated more than $30,000 to charitable organizations. Each month employees raised funds for a different organization. Staffers raised money through a dress-down day every first Friday of the month. They also had additional options to donate money and/or items needed locally, like diapers and toys for Nurses for Newborns.

Recently, a check for $10,000 was presented to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Some of the other organizations supported this year by employee fundraising, included Greater St. Louis Honor Flight, Equine Assisted Therapy, the St. Louis Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Susan G. Komen, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Nurses for Newborns, NICUPS and Epworth Children and Family Services.

Naturally employees enjoy dressing down on a regular basis, but it’s more than that. Many feel affected on a personal level.

“Everyone knows someone that is struggling with something,” says Glenn Barks, president/CEO of First Community Credit Union. “Many of the causes we support have had a direct impact on someone who works here. First Community donates money on a corporate level, too, but I think the employees should really feel good about so much of their own money staying right here locally.”
