Vantage CU Members Gain Leading Technology with EMV Cards

Vantage Credit Union (Bridgeton) is one of the first credit unions in the greater St. Louis area, and entire U.S., to complete its transition from cards with magnetic stripe technology to new MasterCard® EMV chip-enabled debit and credit cards. Regulations that took effect October 1, 2015, shifted financial liability to financial institutions if the new cards were not in place.

“We take our members’ security very seriously,” says Denise Stevens, Executive Vice President at Vantage Credit Union. “Considering the ongoing increases in fraudulent activity, we’ve chosen to be an industry leader by providing an upgrade in security with the chip technology.”

Vantage Credit Union upgraded their existing credit card portfolio late last year and is now working on completing their debit card portfolio. Vantage issued more than 23,000 new chip credit cards to its members and plans to issue more than 60,000 chip debit cards. The upgrade should be complete by November 1, 2015. The benefits to members are a lower overall risk of card payment fraud, less hassle with card replacement from merchant breaches, and expanded payment options.
