Annual Business Meeting Kicks Off 2015 Convention & Expo

Credit union leaders, volunteers, and employees kicked off the first day of the Missouri Credit Union Association’s (MCUA) 2015 Convention & Expo with the Annual Business Meeting.

The Annual Business Meeting was highlighted by the historic vote to consolidate MCUA and the Kansas Credit Union Association (KCUA) to form the Heartland Credit Union Association (HCUA). For more information on HCUA, please click here.

The results were announced immediately following the vote–of the member credit unions that voted, 94% voted in favor of the consolidation. While the new Association will allow for new training and resource opportunities for member credit unions, it will not alter the Association’s priorities.

“The focus of the new Association will not change,” says Don Cohenour, MCUA President/CEO. “We will continue to focus on advocacy in the state of Missouri. We will continue to focus on advocacy in the state of Kansas. We’ll also focus on compliance and continuing to improve awareness of the credit unions.”

Next up, speaker Karen McCullough provided attendees with pointers on how to recharge their batteries and energize their coworkers and colleagues. She addressed change—while some may not like it, younger generations crave it.

“For things to change for you… you have to change,” McCullough reminds the audience. “Raising our happiness makes us more open to change and increases our energy level.”

She suggested three methods to improve these levels: creating rituals, showing gratitude and providing social support. Through several exercises, she showcased how these three simple tips can help attendees focus on the positive.

“Are you going to be the person that raises the energy in the room? Or the person that lowers the energy in the room?” asks McCullough.

Following a brief break, attendees had the opportunity to speak with vendors and colleagues during a reception. Vendors represented companies that offer a variety of member-centric financial services, such as member business loan solutions, marketing services, branch transformation equipment, and consulting services.

In addition to vendor booths, attendees could bid on silent auction items benefiting the Credit Union Political Action Committee of Missouri. Items include several gift baskets, a gift card, an Apple watch and the opportunity to choose the team gear (Cardinals or Royals) that Cohenour wears while singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

After a group dinner, participants and vendors capped the day with a Texas Hold’Em and Black Jack Event. For a $20 donation to the Missouri Credit Union Charitable Foundation, they enjoyed a night of playing cards, refreshments and networking.

Additional coverage will be included in the next edition of the Missouri Difference.
