CDFI Initiative Brings Valuable Training to Credit Unions

For the last three years, the Missouri Credit Union Charitable Foundation (MCUCF) has supported the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) initiative in Missouri.

“The Missouri Credit Union Charitable Foundation proudly supports the CDFI initiative,” says Randy Yeck, Chairman of MCUCF Board of Directors. “This program not only makes it possible for certified credit unions to apply for grants and improve the lives of their members, but it strengthens credit unions by providing affordable training led by highly respected industry experts, such as Rex Johnson, Celeste Cook, and Karin Brown.”

This initiative has positively impacted Missouri’s credit unions in a number of ways. For example, it made it much more affordable for credit union staffers to attend Celeste Cook’s Lending School, which was recently held in St. Louis.

Celeste Cook’s training discussed creative lending strategies, innovative marketing initiatives and a unique lending program that could be integrated immediately for successful loan growth.

MCUCF will continue this tradition of bringing affordable, first-rate educational opportunities to Missouri on October 27-28, 2015. Expert Karin Brown will lead the Collections School in St. Louis, and her training will answer tough questions like:

  • What are effective collection strategies that help your troubled borrowers continue to pay your credit union?
  • Do you have effective incentive programs in place that motivate performance and drive results?

As an expert in the field of collections, Brown will teach the six elements of delinquency control, tips for effective benchmarking and understanding why scoring models are important.

Nearly 30 credit unions have received CDFI certification and more than $7 million in U.S. Treasury grants. These grants help build the capacity of credit unions to serve moderate- to low-income people and distressed communities lacking the access to credit and financial services.

For more information on obtaining CDFI certification, please contact Maria Langston, MCUCF Executive Director, via email or phone, 800.392.3074, ext. 1344.
