Mazuma Credit Union Forms the Mazuma Foundation

Mazuma Credit Union is proud to announce the creation of the Mazuma Foundation, a new organization dedicated to making Kansas City a better place to live and work. The foundation will focus its efforts in the following core areas of interest: community development, financial education, and the arts. Mazuma Credit Union will donate 5% of its net profits to the Mazuma Foundation each year.

“The Mazuma Foundation is an exciting new way that Mazuma will be able to improve the lives of people in the Kansas City area,” says Deonne Christensen, Chief Operating Officer at Mazuma and Board Member for the Mazuma Foundation. “We’re looking forward to making an enormous impact on the community.”

In order to best serve the community, the Mazuma Foundation will award grants to Kansas City area 501c3 organizations whose projects most exemplify the foundation’s focus areas. Grants will be awarded from $500-$5,000 for particular projects, but will not be available to help with operating costs or to build endowments. Grant applications for this year will be accepted from May 15 to October 15, 2015.

Mazuma’s efforts to improve Kansas City don’t stop with the Foundation, however. The credit union also has a program, 40 Hours for Good, which allows all Mazuma employees 40 hours per year of paid time to volunteer at events that support Mazuma’s core areas of interest. Mazuma volunteers have racked up 2,133 hours of service time to date.

Mazuma is also proud to be able to offer community rooms at its Overland Park, Raymore, and Lee’s Summit locations for local organizations who need space to hold their meetings. All rooms have A/V equipment available and can fit from 5-175.

“Mazuma is proud to have a strong tradition of community service,” says Brandon Michaels, President and CEO of Mazuma Credit Union. “The Mazuma Foundation is the perfect way for us to fund unique projects and create a lasting impact in the Kansas City community.”

Organizations interested in applying for grants can find additional information and all necessary application forms at www.mazuma.org/foundation. Organizations interested in using a community room can find a reservation form on the Mazuma Credit Union Facebook page.
