1st Financial FCU CEO Carol Minges Honored with Local Award

Carol Minges, CEO of 1st Financial Federal Credit Union, was selected to the Small Business Monthly’s "Top 100 People to Know in Business" list at their annual luncheon on April 8, 2015. Small Business Monthly publishes this list annually and hosts a luncheon to celebrate the recipients, which are selected by a group of community leaders. Small Business Monthly also publishes an article recognizing the recipients' contributions to the area of business within the St. Louis community.

“Since Carol has taken over leadership of our organization, we have been given a vision and the necessary resources to create real change for our communities,” says Laura Woods, vice president of Marketing and Community Presence. “She holds us accountable every day to make decisions that better ourselves and the people we serve.”

Minges has called 1st Financial Federal Credit Union home for almost seven years. Before she took over as interim CEO in November of 2013, Minges spent 5 1/2 years as 1st Financial’s Chief Information Officer. She officially took over as CEO in June of 2014.

During her tenure, 1st Financial has experienced a drastic culture shift, emphasizing the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” While CEO, 1st Financial has been chosen as one of the Best Workplaces in St. Louis for 2014 by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, started multiple initiatives to improve health and productivity within the branches, and launched a successful community presence program with the goal of assisting the underserved and underbanked population of St. Louis.

This program includes community grant programs that donated more than $15,600 to St. Louis nonprofits, a paid employee volunteer program that allowed 1st Financial employees to work over 460 volunteer hours, and a partnership with the Saint Louis Agency on Training and Education and Tishaura Jones, the Treasurer of the City of St. Louis. Minges’ vision will ensure that St. Louis becomes one of the least underbanked major cities in the United States and promises future city school graduates the choice to go to college.

Laura continued, saying “For her, it’s not lip service.  We are all proud to be on her team and excited to see her receive this honor.”

Minges holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in Information Systems, Information Technology and Business. Before moving to 1st Financial, Minges worked for eleven years at FORUM Credit Union in Indianapolis, Ind., serving in several operations and technology roles, as well as five years for Arsenal Credit Union in St. Louis.
