Pierce Receives Accolades During CUNA's GAC

In recognition of his dedication to the credit union movement, Dennis Pierce was inducted into Credit Union House’s Hall of Leaders in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, March 8. Pierce is the former president/CEO of CommunityAmerica Credit Union (Kansas City).

The Hall of Leaders provides lasting recognition for credit union leaders whose commitment has made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state or national level. These leaders have inspired others through their actions.

During the awards ceremony, Don Cohenour, president/CEO of the Missouri Credit Union Association, introduced Pierce to the audience, sharing several of his career milestones.

“Dennis took over TWA Club Credit Union when it had $588 million in assets and served primarily employees and family members of the airline,” says Cohenour. “In his tenure, Dennis led this credit union to shake its ‘plain vanilla’ product line and expand into a $1.9 billion community credit union serving the greater Kansas City metropolitan area with 30 branches and more than 460 employees.”

Cohenour highlighted Pierce’s strategic vision and his focus on the “people before profit” philosophy. Under his leadership, CommunityAmerica Credit Union regularly received top industry awards for social responsibility and its commitment to adult and youth financial literacy.

Pierce received a plaque, and his name will be added to the hall display in Credit Union House. He joins the most influential credit union leaders from across the country.

Later in the week (March 10), Pierce passed the gavel to Susan Streifel, the newly elected chairwoman of CUNA’s Board of Directors. Streifel is the president/CEO of Woodstone Credit Union (Federal Way, Wash.). Pierce served for a year as the chairman of the board, and he has held several other roles on the board of directors throughout the years.

In the past, he has served on the National Association of Credit Union Service Organizations, the Missouri Credit Union Association Board of Directors and CUNA’s Finance & Governmental Affairs Committees. He currently serves on America’s Credit Union Museum Foundation Board.

After 32 years in the credit union industry, he retired in late February.
