St. Louis Community CU Featured in CU Effect Series

Recently, News Now highlighted St. Louis Community Credit Union's partnership with Community Action Agency of St. Louis County (CAASTLC), a local low-income intervention services organization. This collaboration positively impacts the community and makes homes livable for low-income people.

"Some of these individuals faced dangerous and unsafe conditions," Dorothy Bell, St. Louis Community senior vice president/chief marketing officer, told News Now in an email. "Thanks to the funding, they were able to remain in their homes with dignity."

In 2013, St. Louis Community Credit Union received a $300,000 affordable housing grant from Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB). This grant helped pay for the repair and weatherization of 39 homes. In addition, these homeowners received one-on-one education sessions on living safe, healthy lives in their updated homes.

For example, Ferguson resident, Anne, had issues with the heating in her home. She had to sleep with a heating pad and space heater to stay warm. This was particularly dangerous for an elderly, disabled woman. Thanks to the repairs, Anne can now sleep safely, comfortably through the night.
