Credit Unions Mourn Passing of Charlie DiMercurio

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Charlie DiMercurio. He served on Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union’s (ABECU) Board of Directors for nearly 50 years, and he worked in Human Resources for more than 40 years. He was recently honored at the 2014 Convention & Exposition for his dedication to the credit union movement.

"Affectionately called 'Charlie D,' he was dedicated to Anheuser-Busch Employees' Credit Union and his passing is a great loss to our credit union family," says Pier Alsup, senior vice president of ABECU's Communication & Business Development. "Although he was approaching 50 years of service to ABECU, Charlie D remained as engaged and devoted as the first time I met him 25 years ago. He was a strong supporter of credit union staff and management, and he was well deserving of the many awards he received from the local and national credit union industry."

DiMercurio chaired several ABECU committees, including the HR/Executive Compensation Committee and the last two Executive Search Committees. He received several industry awards, such as the "Director of the Year Award" from CUES (1986), and he was inducted into the Credit Union House "Hall of Leaders" (2008). Most recently, he was inducted into the Missouri Credit Union Association's Honor Roll (2014).

In the video, many of DiMercurio's fellow board members discussed his commitment to the credit union and his mentorship of new volunteers.

“Charlie’s professional experiences at Anheuser-Busch have been instrumental to the continued growth and success of ABECU,” said Jim Fugel in the video. “The membership of ABECU has been very fortunate to have his wisdom throughout his many years of service.”

DiMercurio was the husband of Margaret Peggy DiMercurio, father of Diane Stockwood and Charles G. DiMercurio Jr., and grandfather of Emily Stockwood, Robert Stockwood, Ashley DiMercurio and Charles DiMercurio III.

Services were held on Monday, March 2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
