Annual Advocacy Meeting: Reach Out to Lawmakers in Advance

In less than one week, credit union leaders from across the state will make their way to Missouri Credit Union Association’s (MCUA) Annual Advocacy Meeting. The event takes place February 9-10, in Jefferson City.

This annual event gives credit unions opportunities to share their members’ stories with lawmakers. A legislative reception takes place February 9, and attendees head to the State Capitol to meet one-on-one with lawmakers on February 10.

The Missouri House of Representatives just announced that it is holding a technical session on Monday, February 9, and a late start to session on February 10. It is highly recommended that credit union attendees provide advance notice and schedule meetings with the legislators who represent your credit union members, to determine when and where you can meet with them and encourage their participation in the evening reception.

“These direct meetings gives a local contact to lawmakers about issues and legislation, and helps explain how these issues affect their constituents back home,” says David Kent, MCUA Director of State Legislative Affairs. “Making that contact and sharing key information that makes the difference.”

MCUA distributed Project Zip Code information and contact information for all state lawmakers to registered Annual Advocacy Meeting attendees this week. Project Zip Code shows how many members of a specific credit union live in each legislative district, and can help determine which lawmakers to visit on behalf of your credit union.

If you have questions about making legislative visits, contact David Kent or Amy McLard.

There is still time to register. Register here -
