CMCCU Receives Flag of Freedom Award

Show-Me Heroes recently presented Central Missouri Community Credit Union's (CMCCU) Sedalia branch with the Flag of Freedom award. Administered by the Missouri Division of Workforce Development, Show-Me Heroes recognizes Missouri businesses that have taken a pledge to reach out to and hire veterans.

CMCCU signed the Show-Me Heroes Pledge in 2009.

“We signed this pledge with great honor in knowing that we could reconnect Missouri veterans with meaningful careers; ones in which the Central Missouri Community Credit Union can offer," says Gerry Coffelt, CMCCU branch manager. "When we hired Elaine Bishop, our 20-year veteran, we were ecstatic to bring her into our team.”

The plaque features an American Flag patch from the combat uniform of a member of the Missouri National Guard worn while that Citizen-Soldier or Airman was deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. The American Flag patch CMCCU received turned out to be from a CMCCU member.

“We all felt so astounded and honored. To know that not only our staff, but also our membership bestows so much integrity and strength into the Sedalia community is truly a remarkable feeling," says Coffelt. "We will proudly hang the plaque, which represents, without a doubt, the dedication and pride of our employees and our members. ”

According to their website, more than 1,600 veterans have been hired by Missouri businesses since the establishment of the Show-Me Heroes program in 2010.
