1st Financial Federal Awards Grant, Volunteer Hours

Through the Helping People 1st monthly grant program, 1st Financial Federal Credit Union (Wentzville) gives its employees the opportunity to make a positive difference in the community. The Hazelwood branch, located at 5916 North Lindbergh, chose to award a $500 grant and employee volunteer hours to work with PAKT Community Resource Center in April.

PAKT Community Resource Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the people of North St. Louis County. It provides emergency rent and utility assistance, hosts after school and summer programs for local children and acts as an emergency food pantry for the community since 1965. According to the website, PAKT’s mission is “to unite Christian congregations, corporate foundations and individuals in a community based (both secular and Christ-centered) human social service organization to provide basic material, health, recreational and educational programs for individuals and families in need.”

“The Hazelwood Team chose PAKT Community Resource Center because they have a vision and mission of helping low-income, underserved families right here in our own community," says Tanya Forsythe, Hazelwood branch manager. "We wanted to play a part in helping those within our own community find a place to live, receive education and have a chance for a better and brighter future. We were able to do that by giving PAKT the Helping People 1st grant."

In addition to a $500 award, the Hazelwood branch organized a paid volunteer day where employees were able to work directly for PAKT. The branch also held bake sales and other fundraising activities to increase the amount of their donation. On May 15, Forsythe presented Toni Burrows, president of PAKT Community Center, with a check for $1,863.

“It’s wonderful what you are doing for the people in this area,” says Burrows. “We take a holistic approach to helping people. We work to impact their entire lives. With the help we have received from 1st Financial, we will be able to support even more people within our community. Thanks is the smallest, biggest word you can use to express gratitude. This program has been incredible and PAKT thanks you for your service.”
