Participate in the St. Louis Chapter's Youth Month

Join the St. Louis Chapter of Credit Unions and participate in their joint credit unions' Youth Month campaign this year!

Dates:  April 1 – 30, 2014

1.) Use the Credit Union National Association's (CUNA) National Youth Campaign to:
  • Increase parental awareness of the need for youth financial literacy
  • Increase youth deposits
  • Increase credit union youth accounts

2.) Combine efforts of the Chapter’s credit unions to raise money and awareness for St. Louis Children’s Miracle Network.

Support Materials
CUNA’s 2014 theme is Catch the $ave Wave. CUNA support materials that reflect this theme are available here.

National Youth Savings Challenge
Each April CUNA sponsors a Youth Savings Challenge to help its affiliated credit unions encourage youth to make deposits into their credit union accounts.

CUNA randomly awards $100 cash prizes to 25 registered credit unions. The winning credit unions then randomly award the $100 cash prize to a youth that made a deposit into his or her account at their credit union in April.

Find additional savings challenge information, FAQ’s, official rules and register for CUNA Savings Challenge here.

Voluntary Cause Marketing Program Benefiting Children’s Miracle Network (CMN)
Participation in this program is not required for your credit union to participate in CUNA Youth Savings Challenge.

As part of youth month and the credit union philosophy of people helping people, the St. Louis credit unions have participated in a voluntary campaign to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals (CMNH) for the past four years. In 2013, Alliance, Electro Savings, First Community, Southpointe and Vantage combined efforts to raise $3,418. Since 2010, these and other St. Louis Chapter credit unions have combined to donate $13,108 to CMNH through this event. Our goal is to have more credit unions participate this year to beat last year’s donation!

During the month of April, participating credit unions agree to donate $5 to CMNH for the following:

  • Each new youth account opened and/or
  • Each $25 or greater deposit made to an existing youth account

Credit Union Responsibilities

  1. Promote the event to credit union members and local community
  2. Track the number of eligible new accounts opened and/or deposits made in April
  3. Make the applicable credit union donation directly to CMNH
  4. Report your totals to the Chapter for use in a joint press release

Participating credit unions are encouraged to add their own activities to the event such as, a coloring contest using CUNA’s free coloring pages with a prize determined by the credit union, holding a parent/child financial education class, or staff incentives for opening new youth accounts.

If your credit union is interested in participating in the CMNH donation program, contact Lisa Farnen at 314-434-6470, x1503 or email by March 7, 2014.
