TelComm Teams Up with Crosslines, Collects Holiday Gifts

TelComm Credit Union (Springfield) helped collect items for Crosslines, a Council of the Churches of the Ozarks program, to make this holiday season a bit brighter for area children in need.

TelComm began accepting items just before Thanksgiving and ended on Saturday, December 14, at noon. Donations were accepted at all six credit union branches.

"This year, nearly 3,500 children will be helped through the Crosslines Toystore,” says Christine Moses, director of Marketing and Development for the Council of the Churches of the Ozarks. “The efforts through the community are crucial in meeting the need for families seeking assistance to provide food and toys for their children. We are so grateful for the partnership with TelComm Credit Union to support Crosslines in an effort to give low-income families hope and joy at Christmas."

The Crosslines Holiday Center had anticipated a 10 percent increase in families seeking holiday assistance. Crosslines’ holiday assistance includes Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and toys for children in the household. Each food basket contains enough for each family member to have breakfast, a snack and traditional holiday meal—turkey or ham, vegetables, eggs, butter, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and dessert. New toys are distributed to families seeking assistance—each child receives three gifts, a knit item (hat, scarf, gloves, etc.) and a book.

The distribution center provides services for families residing in Greene County. It's set up like a retail store, and parents can select gifts for their children with the help of a volunteer shopping assistant. Families that apply for the program are entered into a database at Crosslines, which is cross-referenced with 20 other organizations in southwestern Missouri that provide holiday assistance (including Salvation Army, Victory Mission, Boys & Girls Club). This ensures that as many families as possible receive help during the season.
