HCUA welcomes new Kansas director of legislative & political affairs

Updated 9.23.2022

Michael Murray joins HCUA as the new Kansas director of legislative and political affairs, based in our Topeka office. Murray previously served as chief of staff for outgoing Kansas House Speaker Pro Tem Blaine Finch. Prior to that position, Murray worked in the Kansas Senate as chief of staff for Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine.

His first day was Sept. 12. He replaces Stephanie Mullholland who recently moved to the Kansas Contractors Association to lead its marketing and membership efforts.

“We are so excited to have Michael join our advocacy team and bring his strong expertise in Kansas legislative efforts to HCUA,” says Amy McLard, vice president of advocacy. “We look forward to introducing him to our credit union leaders at Convention and Annual Meeting, as well as other meetings and events throughout the state, and welcoming him to credit unions.”

Here's a bit more about Michael in his own words:

What is your favorite snack or candy?
Nutty Bars

Favorite book, movie/tv series or preferred area of geekery?
For better or worse I can reference just about any scene from The Office when the moment calls for it.

Would you rather be the funniest or smartest person in the room? Why?
Funniest. Especially with first impressions I feel more comfortable proving humor than smarts to connect with people.
