Consumer Loan Underwriter
kstate Credit Union

CUlead is a program aimed at building and enhancing our credit union management staffs' leadership abilities to further the credit union and cooperative movements. With these CUlead spotlights, we're excited to shine a light on these leaders.

This week, we meet Kinsey Turbiville, a consumer loan underwriter at kstate Credit Union (Manhattan, KS).

How long have you been in the credit union industry?

5 years

What drew you to credit union work? What keeps you working in the credit union field?

What brought me to the credit union was the sense of community. Whenever I went into my credit union as a member I always felt welcome. What has kept me here is being able to help those in my community. Getting to show members and those new to credit unions how we are there to serve them.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions to get to the why or what of the member's needs.

If you could make one rule that everyone had to follow, what rule would that be?

You must ask questions to help get clarity before forming an opinion.

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance of winning a medal for?

Reading - when I get the chance I love to sit down and read. Some might say speed reading because if able, I have been known to read 3 or 4 novels in a day.

There are two types of people in this world. What are the two types?

Those who use their blinkers and those who do not.
