CUlead is a program aimed at building and enhancing our credit union management staffs' leadership abilities to further the credit union and cooperative movements. With these CUlead spotlights, we're excited to shine a light on these leaders.
This week, we meet Heather Russell, branch manager at Wichita Federal Credit Union (Wichita, KS).
How long have you be in the credit union industry?
What is your favorite thing about working at a credit union?
The relationships with members and co-workers. Being able to build relationships with members and seeing them advance in their careers or move into retirement and help them with their financial goals. I also enjoy seeing co-workers advance in their career goals with the credit union.
What does true leadership mean to you?
Leadership to me is helping achieve goals, whether that be the organizations goals, my staff's goals, member's goals or personal goals. Leadership is not always about leading but about finding a common interest or goals that you and others are working towards.
If you could make one rule that everyone had to follow, what rule would that be?
Be kind to others. 2020 was a tough year and I think we all learned that we can be a little kinder and a little more understanding of others and what struggles people are going through.
