Last week, Dan Engelhard and Mike Murphy were with HCUA's Professional of the Year and Volunteer of the Year award, respectively. Dave Tate was recognized as a Hall of Fame inductee for lifelong commitment to credit unions.

Professional of the Year:
Dan Engelhard,
Mazuma Credit Union

Mazuma’s chief lending officer, Dan Englehard is an accessible executive leader, who is positive, poised, and a deep thinker. He sponsors and mentors Mazuma’s Financial Wellness Committee, played a key role in building the CU Change Program that teaches financial wellness concepts, started Mazuma’s indirect lending program and much more.

The Professional of the year award honors credit union employees who illustrate the people helping people philosophy every day, selflessly supporting credit unions and demonstrating leadership for the betterment of credit unions and their communities.

Volunteer of the Year:
Mike Murphy,
West Community Credit Union

Impressive. Capable. Caring. Those are the words used to described Mike Murphy, Board Chair of West Community Credit Union. He has volunteered countless hours, advocated for the movement and fiercely supported the credit union difference for 36 years. He has been active in political advocacy, both on the local and national levels.

The Volunteer of the Year recognizes credit union volunteers who give their time and talent to support, promote and advocate for the credit union movement. Their efforts have improved people’s lives and enriched their community.

Hall of Fame:
Dave Tate,
Together Credit Union

When Dave Tate was hired as member service manager in the early 80s, Together Credit Union had less than 25,000 members. During his 40 years at the credit union, he made members a priority, and helped grow the organization to 134,000+ members strong. When he retired four decades later as vice president of branch operations, his main focus was still the member.

It's not uncommon for employees to spend their whole career in the credit union industry. These "long-timers" have helped credit unions, changed members' lives and impacted the movement in significant and meaningful ways.

Each year, HCUA honors credit union rockstars for their dedication and effort to the credit union movement in Kansas or Missouri. A selection committee may select a nominee(s) meeting the minimum criteria. We recognize selected nominees at our annual Convention & Annual Meeting.
