Leon G. Kusnetzky Family Fund for Small Credit Unions

Leon G. Kusnetzky was a true leader in the credit union movement. Upon his passing in May 2013, the Leon G. Kusnetzky Family Fund for Small Credit Unions was formed to nurture the sustainability of small credit unions. The family has issued a challenge and will match up to $10,000 raised for this fund in 2020.

Leon G. Kusnetzky dedicated his life to credit unions and the movement. To say he was passionate about this mission is an understatement, from his first days working with credit unions in the 1960s until his passing in May 2013.

Leon’s influence and efforts improved legislation impacting credit unions, credit union bylaws, and the development of CUSOs (Credit Union Service Organizations). He and his fellow law associates also helped credit unions defend themselves against lawsuits, navigate bankruptcy litigation, set up policies, and analyze contracts.

Known for his humor and warm personality, Leon constantly built relationships, connecting credit unions with individuals and organizations that helped them succeed. He worked to achieve credit union sustainability, in particular for small credit unions.

In a tough regulatory environment, he organized and sponsored a small credit union CUSO. The CUSO shared and supported ideas that assisted credit unions in serving their individual memberships. He was also a founding charter member of the Missouri Corporate Credit Union (now Millennium Corporate Credit Union), and mentored members of their senior management.

The loss of Leon is still felt today, but together, by making a donation to this fund, we can ensure that his mission of supporting small credit unions lives on!
