The road to retirement can be challenging. Attend this training so you can help your credit union members build their nest eggs. Two dynamic IRA sessions from the Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) offer a solid foundation for your credit union employees. IRA Basics provides the building blocks of IRAs, and IRA Advanced builds on attendees' previous knowledge and includes techniques to deal with members. If you are new to IRAs, an IRA specialist or somewhere in between, this training is for you!

Day 1: February 28 IRA Basics Training

The objective of the day is to provide you with a general understanding of IRAs. Like birds migrating south, January 1 brings back the IRA season. If you want to see employees run, mention the three magic letters, IRA. However, once one gets a solid foundation, and learns the building blocks of IRAs, this product is much easier than most think.

As a seasonal product, it is always good to refresh one's memory on IRAs and to understand any changes which may have occurred. This program is designed for individuals who are both new to dealing with IRAs, as a refresher for those who have a previous understanding of IRAs, and to specifically look at the changes that will affect IRA programs.

Topics that will be discussed include:

  • IRAs - Understanding The History of The Product
  • Learn What Most Americans Don't Do
  • Types of IRAs
  • Member Eligibility Requirements
  • Documentation Requirements
  • Handling the Various Forms
  • Contribution and Distribution Rules
  • Rollovers and Transfers
  • IRA Penalties and Withholding
  • Basic Reporting
  • The Art of Giving Advice Without Giving Advice
  • What Changes Have Occurred
  • Building One's Confidence
