On Monday, February 4, the world learned of a large-scale data breach involving approximately 4,600 bank executives. The hacktivist group, known as “Anonymous”, claimed responsibility for this incident and posted data publicly on the Internet. It has since been confirmed that the publicized information was obtained from the Federal Reserve’s Emergency Communications System (ECS). Included in this breach was not only public bank and executive information, but sensitive information including cell and home phone numbers, user accounts, hashed passwords with salts, bank and personal email addresses, and external IP addresses.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS – Dr. Kevin Streff & Jon Waldman, Secure Banking Solutions

Dr. Streff is the Director of the Center for Information Assurance at Dakota State, which has been recognized by the National Security Agency and The Department of Homeland Security as a national center of academic excellence in information assurance.  He has extensive knowledge of the financial services industry, including banking, insurance, and credit operations, and speaks nationally on security issues and solutions relevant to small and medium-sized financial institutions. 

Dr. Streff is the founder and managing partner of Secure Banking Solutions, a security consulting firm focused on improving security in financial institutions across the country.  He is also President of InfraGard – South Dakota, a partnership program between private industry and the U.S. government (represented by the FBI).  He has testified to Congressional committees on behalf of small and medium-sized financial institutions regarding cyber security issues affecting their organizations.

Jon Waldman, Vice-President of Professional Services and co-founder of Secure Banking Solutions, LLC, is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).  At Dakota State University, Jon received a Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems and a Master’s in Information Assurance with an emphasis in Banking and Finance Security.  Over the last eight years, he has helped financial institutions across the country create and implement comprehensive, valuable, and manageable Information Security Programs.
