Renée Sattiewhite is the president and CEO of the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) and is responsible for the execution of the strategic vision of the board of directors. With over 30 years in the world of finance, she started her career as a teller trainee for City National Bank in Beverly Hills, California. She quickly moved up the ranks with various positions including bank officer. She has been associated with credit unions for more than 25 years and was the first internship program director for the AACUC.
Renee’s background is in training and marketing, specializing in customer service, effective communication, board development, team building and strategic planning. Renée is a graduate of Oglethorpe University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
Renée is a certified diversity professional, a credit union development educator, motivational speaker, an executive coach, mentoring trainer and assists organizations with marketing campaigns.
Larry D. Sewell, vice president of community outreach at Together Credit Union, has been active in the credit union industry for more than 25 years.Prior to joining Together Credit Union, Larry was a Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Major after serving for 17 years. He currently serves as chairman of the African American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) Board of Directors. He has been an active member of the AACUC since 2009. In 2021, Larry was appointed to serve a one-year term on the CUNA Advocacy Committee.
Larry was born and raised in Birmingham, AL and graduated from the historic A.H. Parker High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Samford University and two Masters Degrees from the University of Arkansas (Business Management) and Webster University – St. Louis (Information Management).
Maria J. Martinez, President/CEO of Border Federal Credit Union (BFCU), headquartered in Del Rio, TX, serving over 25,000 members. Maria’s passion is making positive connections and being of service to others.
Maria is active as the Chairwoman of the National Association of Latino Credit Unions & Professionals (NLCUP); serves on the CUNA Board representing CUNA’s District 5, Class A credit unions; is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas’ Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council (CDIAC); is a member of the CU DEI Collective group formed in 2019; serves on CUNA’s CU Awareness LLC Board; and serves in other boards and committees.
Maria was born in Mexico, immigrated to the USA when she was 13, grew up in San Antonio, TX, and she is constantly advocating for the financial wellness of Hispanics and the under-served.
Kirk D. Mills, CFA, serves as the president/CEO of St. Louis Community Credit Union (SLCCU) and has been with the organization for almost 17 years. Along with the passionate team from SLCCU, Kirk is committed to helping create economic mobility for all St. Louis area residents but with a focus on those that come from stressed and distressed communities.
Prior to SLCCU, Kirk held positions at other financial services organizations including GE, Deutsche Bank, Educational Employees Credit Union and Anheuser-Busch Employees Credit Union. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, received his Executive MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis and his undergraduate degree in finance from Western Illinois University.
Michelle Wood, Mazuma's chief culture & diversity & inclusion officer, has served the credit union movement for more than 20 years. Michelle has helped individuals, teams, and organizations identify their unique gifts, core values, and principles, and helped them elevate into their untapped potential. As a lifelong learner she melds her unique background of member experience and sales, psychology, organization development, leadership coaching, talent development, and creative communication and culture invigoration with new thoughts, ideas, and perspectives to encourage growth in herself and those around her.
With this mindset, she has helped unite diverse groups of people behind a shared purpose while helping to inspire an inclusive environment that honors and covets unique identities, experiences, and perspectives. Michelle is honored to serve the Mazuma Credit Union team, members, and community in helping to make Kansas City a better place to Live, Work, and Bank.
